Jacques Fontaine graduated from École des Métiers in Rivière-du-Loup, (province of Québec, 1967); today the CFP Pavillon-de-L'Avenir. He began his career as a carpenter. First, in the field of construction and residential renovation in the area of Québec City. Subsequently, as a journeyman carpenter, he joined the MIL Davie shipyard team. He worked there for 28 years in the various carpentry departments.
M Fontaine spend's his free time in his workshop, manufacturing various furniture items, models of planes, boats, and games and toys to amuse his family and grandchildren. In the 80s and 90s, he made a series of seven model planes entirely made by hand. In 2003, with the collaboration of the Maritime Museum of St-Jean-Port-Joli, he exhibited and sold his first model of a boat to a private collector (The Mermaid, 107 cm long.). Subsequently, he began his project L'ARMADA, a daring wooden model ship with precise details and fine craftsmanship, which you can see on this site.
He retired from construction in 2010 and since then he has been splitting his time between new model projects and a variety of handmade items. His passionate work demonstrates a great technical mastery, a love for the material of wood, a care given to the details and a remarkable patience.
